The GPNA Meeting MinutesGrant Park Neighborhood Association On June 27, 2005 Neighborhood Association Members, involved neighbors, a Portland Crime Prevention Specialist, and neighborhood police officer involved with the case met to discuss a neighborhood methamphetamine house. Due to confidentiality the specific information will be included, but instead a general summary, and recommendations made. Grant Part currently has a house in which it has become apparent crystal methamphetamine is being used. The resident is the homeowner, and has no prior record. A series of incidents has caused the surrounding neighbors to be concerned. Currently the neighbors are compiling information with the goal of filing a Hayden Warrant. A Hayden Warrant is a citizen warrant, where neighbors will compile a log of suspicious activity with the desired result of the police being able to obtain a search warrant. Neighbors were also advised to look into filing a civil lawsuit in regards to the decrease in property value due to the suspicious behavior. The surrounding neighbors have formed a neighborhood watch, and it has been strongly suggested that the neighborhood start up a neighborhood wide neighborhood watch, as well as establishing block watches with block captains. The neighborhood association will be putting out a supplementary newsletter this summer to warm neighbors of the problem. The GPNA website will be updated, including newsletter, minutes, and a place to submit email addresses to aid in communication ability.
80% of property theft is attributed to the rising methamphetamine problems. Ways of protecting yourself against property theft: leave your porch lights on at night, make sure doors are locked, having your address clearly visible, if suspicious persons come door to door asking for money call the non emergency police number.
